Indeed, research has shown that the poor tend to be disconnected from family, friends, neighbors, and community, wreaking havoc on their health and stability and hindering their path out of poverty. This suggests that perhaps the foremost act of charity should be kindling a connection with those in need– but many are hesitant. How do you break the ice? How do you balance encouragement and confrontation? What if there are difficult root issues at play?
